I just read Pushing Buttons, a graphic novel by Danish cartoonist Ursula Blix. I loved the artwork and how the story slowly shed light on Margit’s soul-sucking work and relationship with her supervisor/best friend Chloe. I will definitely be looking for more work from Blix and Black Panel Press.

I love your Dr. Fate! And your depiction of Inza is throwing off some seriously shifty Richard Sala vibes.

What happened in the last 20s when private businesses got all bloviated? Does anyone remember that?

Fun fact: I went to high school with him. He was a year ahead of me, and we had mutual friends but I did not really know him. He was brilliant back then, too. Small world!

Next up in my great graphic novel catch-up: the first volume of @jefflemire171.bsky.social’s Minor Arcana. It’s features many of the best aspects of his work: strong characters, slow burn reveals, family secrets, and just the right amount of supernatural surprises. So good and compelling!

Big Jim and the White Boy by @davidfwalker.bsky.social and Marcus Kwame Anderson is a phenomenal graphic novel. More than an American classic reimagined, it’s an epic tale of its own that firmly places Jim into US history and culture in a substantial and moving way. I read it a few weeks ago, and it

My great graphic novel catch-up continues with Sunshine by @studiojjk.bsky.social. It’s a book that can make you smile and also shed a tear, showing people with medical conditions that many would typically shy away from. It’s a hopeful, affirming read.

Hey Kiddo  is one of my favorite graphic novels, and  Sunshine  is its follow-up but it stands by itself. This book chronicles a week that K...

Linda Ronstadt or some Greek music. This one was my favorite. The cassette was red, and I guess I asked for it so much that one day it got “lost.”

My first (that I remember) was Detective Comics #507 written by Gerry Conway, drawn by Don Newton and Dan Adkins. It features a murderer named Manikin who freaked me out.

What was your first Batman comic?
Cover to Detective Comics #507 by Denys Cowan and Dick Giordano. It shows a weary Batman whose costume has rips in it, surrounded by fire. In the foreground facing him is a woman wearing a copper colored costume that resembles a mannequin. She is standing over a pile of burning mannequins. A word balloon indicates she is telling him, “You cannot stop me, Batman! Stand aside or Manikin will DESTROY YOU!” Text reads, “A startling conclusion! Dressed to die!”

I just read Marvel All-On-One by @ryannorth.ca and Ed McGuiness. It’s told all in splash pages, and it’s a fun smash-‘em-up tale that captures the spirit of the bashful, blue-eyed favorite nephew of Aunt Petunia.
Cover to Marvel All-On-One #1 by Ed McGuiness and Mark Farmer. It shows a mass of superheroes rising up to battle Ben Grimm, The Thing, as he punches them all ferociously. In the pile are Spider-Man, Firestar, Hulk, Iron Man, Cyclops, Mr. Fantastic, Venom, Daredevil, Venom, Nightcrawler, She-Hulk, Red Hulk, Black Panther, and Thor. The Human Torch, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider are toward the bottom, falling.

My kids have been reading books in the I Survived graphic novel series, so I decided to check one out. I Survived the Shark Attacks of 1916 is a fun way to learn about history and sharks from a kid’s point of view. I’ll definitely be checking out more soon!

part to the gorgeously expressive art by @nicolascottart.bsky.social. I am getting a Secret Six vibe from the series, not simply because of the art but because of its strong character work and clever plotting. Their love for these miscreants really shines through. Can’t wait for what’s next!

Cheetah and Cheshire Rob The Justice League #2 continues this great heist series. Here they start getting the crew together, and I love the combination of newer and more established, less used characters. The writing by @gregrucka.com is taut, and the characters really sing and pop, in no small
Cover to Cheetah and Chesire Rob the Justice League #2 by Nicola Scott. It shows the figures of Cheetah and Chesire, their backs to the readers, looking at a wall full of mugshots of supervillains. Cheetah is holding one mugshot in her hand, showing it to Cheshire, and saying, “Get a load of this guy!”

I just read Mahdi Khene’s Yirasuka: The Baddest Bitch in Sector Six issue 2, and it’s a wild, fun, and profane ride. This exciting comic also includes a number of guest interludes, including one featuring @santossisterscomic.bsky.social , which was a great surprise to me. Adults only!
Cover to Yirasuka #2, showing a close-up of her face. She is glaring, eyebrows raised, and wearing eye black on her cheeks. In her eyes you can see reflections of an open can of Fluff cola, which it turns out is very, very, very bad for your health. Text reads, “The Baddest Bitch in Sector Six” and “For Adults Only.”

And they follow up with “don’t forget to send us $$$.” The messaging is so inept. Why the hell would I send money to anyone so ineffectual?
