John Lennon would have been 85 today. Imagine all that could have been if his life wasn't cut so tragically short. Here’s a short piano tribute. Imagine is an uncomplicated song but as close to perfection as humanly possible (in my opinion). #music #musicians #JohnLennon

We're so relieved to see Germany reaffirm its opposition to the dangerous Chat Control proposal--the one that would mandate mass scanning of communications. Germany's long been a solid champion of privacy, and the news that it was considering backing mass surveillance was alarming. 1/

It’s good we have data protection laws in Europe.

I am old enough to remember Americans were claiming that these laws would ‘hold us back’.

Will's post also shows a great use case for Python's structural pattern matching.

If the user can specify padding in many different formats, using `match` can validate the format during runtime and easily homogenise the structure.

What do you think of this alternative?

The ICC’s chief prosecutor has lost access to his email, and his bank accounts have been frozen.

American staffers at the court have been told that if they travel to the U.S. they risk arrest.

NGOs have stopped working with the ICC, the leader of one won’t even reply to ICC emails.
Trump's sanctions on ICC prosecutor have halted tribunal's work
Nearly three months ago, U.S. President Donald Trump slapped sanctions on the International Criminal Court's chief prosecutor, Karim Khan.

The Microsoft layoffs should remind us that companies don't choose their actions based on what's best for open source communities. The best they can do is try to align open source work with their business strategy. And business strategies shift all the time.

#Microsoft fired the team working on #Python interpreter/compiler optimization.

They will pay millions in bonuses to execs who are already millionaires, but they won't commit a fair share to support the Free/OpenSource projects that enable their profits.

Today, we’re announcing the preview release of ty, an extremely fast type checker and language server for Python, written in Rust.

In early testing, it's 10x, 50x, even 100x faster than existing type checkers. (We've seen >600x speed-ups over Mypy in some real-world projects.)
