one thing that is true for everyone reading this: unless something changes dramatically the number of people who agree with you on what basic facts constitute "reality" will shrink every year for the rest of your life

pointing out the rights hypocrisy about freedom of speech doesn’t really do too much but i honestly am just stunned how blatantly and quickly they reversed on pretty much every constitutional freedom the moment they gained full power

I went to a stag, for one of my oldest friends, this past weekend. The politics were polarized in both directions. Half support our modern SS and the other half are ready for some abstract revolution. A long distance from the let’s get drunk mentality of 10 year ago. Trump has radicalized us all.

I think there’s an impulse among many people to assume society is always getting worse which probably both shapes media narratives & how people respond. As someone who teaches sociology, it’s astounding how many students begin papers with “X is increasing” when X has been decreasing for years.
The fact that literally zero outlets ever cover crime decline as a story is a huge reason. (And before you yell at me, we do!)
This @today.yougov.com poll is why I'm going to become the Joker.
The US murder rate in 2024 was likely down nearly 30 percent relative to 2020 and down nearly 50 percent relative to 1990.

I am teaching a civic oriented high school class this summer. Today we are analyzing the Bronx Slave Market. I’m using social reproduction theory. Half the class loves the method heaviness of the class and the other half has no idea what I’m talking about. It’s literally a 50/50 split 😭.
