I look forward to hearing more about the proposed idea of a reading test for year 8 secondary school children. However, all a poor test will prove is that our education system has failed to meet the child’s needs. So unless linked to a rethink around pedagogy it will achieve nothing.

When a child is physically ill we instantly understand. But those who struggle with poor mental health, who have suffered life-changing trauma, who are being abused, bullied or exploited, who have special educational needs, are too often labelled as difficult & then written-off!

In 2021 this team set up a pilot; Oasis Nurture provides personalised therapeutic care for children facing multiple adversities, making sure that no child feels excluded because of the emotional challenges they face. Now we’re ready to launch the same approach elsewhere in London & Liverpool.

Too many young men are turning to toxic models of masculinity in search for direction. But there’s so much we can do about . In my view, there are a number of reasons. One, the absence of male teachers in our primary schools - such a critical stage in childhood development.

Yesterday we were privileged to host Prince William at Oasis St Martin’s Village in South London, as he came to meet the fantastic group of local charities working together there to create life l-changing opportunities for local young people. It takes a village to raise a child!

It is very simple: If we are really looking to raise standards in schools we must also invest in children’s, youth and family support as well as a wider pedagogy and curriculum. It is the only way to ensure every child is given the best possible start in life.

Hamas is a monster. Netanyahu has become as brutal a monster as the evil he seeks to destroy. To rob countless innocent Palestinians of life & hope - using Hamas as an excuse to fulfil his long held religious goal to wipe Gaza from the map - is a crime the world will never forget.

For many students the problem isn’t learning Maths or English, instead it’s to do with the way we insist on teaching Maths & English. That’s why forcing students who have failed them to resit the same style of exam produces such poor results & such high levels of disillusionment.

When a child lacks security they come to school in search of what they are starved of. It’s only when a child enjoys security that they can come to school fully focussed on learning.
