💡 Most importantly, we need to teach students to treat paper and screen as different formats and explicitly teach different strategies to read them effectively. When students understand the 'why' behind these decisions, they become more strategic readers across both formats.
Hopefully as educators, we've moved beyond a Digital vs. Paper debate to focus on teaching how and when to use both effectively. This research confirms screen reading tends to be faster but shallower and students aren't aware of this difference in their comprehension or level of understanding.
