Talk about coincidences. Just finished a Joe Hill book and tried to figure out what to read next. Had The Mayan Secrets by Cussler and Thomas Perry as an option

What do I see? That the opening historical prologue is set on Jan. 23, 1537. Today's date but 487 years ago.

Not going to cross post to Facebook any longer. While there are stalwarts still there, and I'm maintaining my page, I don't have any desire to post there.

I hate doing that but with the current state of crisis (loved one in hospital + other stuff I won't go into), I'd love to have some income.

You can probably guess from my last post that my world view was formed by reading lots of pulp fiction. Which was a gateway to fantasy, science fiction and horror. Add a Catholic education and being raised in a middle class household and you get a mix of liberal/progressive and conservative beliefs.

Terror Takes 7 by Lester Dent, writing under the house name Kenneth Robeson for Street & Smith Publications is a post-World War II adventure. Most later year Doc Savage pulps find the original troubleshooter "diminished" from his mythical superhero status.

This is definitely a First World problem (though I don’t know how much longer the U.S. will/should qualify as part of the First World) but I’m debating what book to read next. I came across this Benjamin Franklin quote used as an epigraph: “… if you make yourselves sheep, the wolves will eat you.”

TEACUP (on Peacock), a loose adaptation of Robert McCammon's STINGER, is enjoyable enough. It has some proper creepy sci-fi horror scares. Can't say I'm fond of where they left us, but it was not bad.

The other reason that I need to hold up diving into the novel is my need to “damage” my protagonist(s). While I am a pulp “superhero” fan, I do not think it’s a good idea to make my main character a Galahad. He’s more Shadow than Savage. My “darling” can’t be a darling.

If one counts today there are 52 days left in the year. That’s a good number to keep in mind — seven weeks and a handful of days (three to be exact; another significant number) — and in light of the recent U.S. election it seems appropriate to finally finish my O’Neill/Bishop ring space opera.

Making the transition over to Bluesky will take some time as I had used Facebook as my main social media stop for what seems forever.

I’m hopeful I’ll find this forum less toxic — and a place where I may find a community where I don’t need to worry about being outed. “Outed” meaning I’m inclusive.
