no offense, but i'm so glad not to be a football fan today. i love to follow only one sport, and i'm glad it's in its offseason

still feeling very "what the fuck" about this
today, i got a "happy thanksgiving" call from my parents that they rounded out by telling me they wouldn't be visiting me for Christmas because my pregnant sister who hasn't spoken to me in 10 years is due in mid-December. what a timely reminder that my family is fucking terrible 🥰

ever since i gave up trying to spend it with family, i kind of like thanksgiving. i simply love puttering around the kitchen making little dishes and sauces

it took me until adulthood to realize how good sweet potatoes were bc my family would only have them at Thanksgiving and my mom always made them mashed together with pineapple

the silver lining of this otherwise emotionally fraught time of year is that i love pie so much that it's the only time when i'm likely to get close to the amount of pie i yearn for

in July, Charles hosted a reading circle for NWU members. the others were older. i was the only visibly queer person. i'd brought my poem about Wendy Carlos, and before i could eke out my intro about her, Charles was all over it, with enthusiasm. at once, i felt seen and at home. rest well, comrade
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Charles Coe. A multiple-time Stone Soup feature, he was a towering presence whether it was featuring for me, the Boston Celebrates National Poetry Month Marathon, the Cambridge Poetry MashUp and so many other events and venues. #poetry #poetrycommunity

until, let's say, March, i am resolved that my only thoughts about the Orioles will be "it sure is a shame about last season" and "i am a fan of the Baltimore Orioles." for now, in the palace of my mind, people like Mike Elias simply do not exist

Editors have a really hard job, and the good ones can make something unreadable readable, and the great ones can make something unreadable into something good. But they're basically invisible, until someone tries to write without one.
