Rooted Salvia Amistad stems, koha of around $5 a stem, these four are in water and need to go over next few days, but I can offer heaps for anyone wanting to grab some for a border or whatever.

Valerianella locusta aka Mâcha aka Corn Salad aka Lamb's Lettuce

I acquired (with permission) this speciman from the mara kai at school, as it was dropping its seed and is probably around two thirds ripe.

Interested to know if anyone else in Ōtepoti has noticed Tī Kouka flowering profusely this season? Or any other Native plants 💚📷 other parts of Aotearoa? I wonder if it's a Mast year?

Tomatoes from Sara, please help, I dont have room for all these plants!
November 23, 2025 at 5:51 PM
Thank you to Sara for dropping over some excess tomatoes! They've been potted up in fours, some as reds (likely to be money maker), and yellows, which include Glimpse, that we dont have in the tomato catalog,

Donkey and horse manure
The horse manure shelf has been stocked up with more bags of manure on the St Kilda stall.

This development is a bit of a foray into promoting inclusion. We have a group of individuals supported by Community Care Trust to bag up the manure.

Romanesco broccoli has been pretty much pest free since the beginning, despite white butterfly about. I plan to grow it out again, with seed from a different supplier as well, hopefully get the heads a bit more substantial next time, and will add in fresh seed. (Planted too close together)

This is an easy flower for beginning a seedsaving journey. It's Calendula. And it's one where you can actually watch the seeds as they develop.

This is something I'm really keen to just share, because this is kind of ... this is our wee community. Some are on this page even, and its inspiring, because there is so much in the news thats impossible to keep abreast of,

Thank you for the anonymous sharing of another couple of runner bean plants, and a Dahlia tuber, which has since been taken.
November 17, 2025 at 5:27 PM
Some more beans have been done up because they went down pretty quickly yesterday (yay, but also, please only take a packet or two, and please remember to share some back to a seed library, any seed library, after you've let the best pods dry off and go brown on the plant).

For anyone interested in seed libraries, this is a very inspiring seed library project happening over in Waldronville and I am really interested in sharing this particular post. See, many seedsavers have this interest in story.

#seedswap 2pm next Sunday 24th August, Broad Bay school.
Please bring surplus seeds, any seeds special to you, and pick up some new seeds, there will be tomato multi packs and beans for anyone to help in the Ōtepoti grow outs of tomatoes, beans, capsicums, by sharing couple of fruit back in Autumn
August 16, 2025 at 8:47 AM
Please join us in building seedy resources for Ōtepoti! Still a lot of tomato seeds for everyone wanting to grow tomatoes, with agreement to share some fruit back in Autumn for seed for 2026 growing season. It's important to be involved in something constructive and beautiful amongst all the news.

This low winter light on these icy mornings does something for my brain 😍 I'm not a photographer, I can't capture its true beauty

Thank you to Fiona for sharing some White Iceicle radish seed. I will process these and get them out into the library but probably also grow some out here to keep a supply of seed as its very popular

Thank you to the beautiful Jae for sharing some heirloom tomato and some chilli seed to the library. It is such a privilege to see these seeds as they move around our community. I feel so incredibly lucky to see these varieties as they come and go, season after season.

Who out there in Otepoti is able to help me build up tomato seed for a good cause? Good cause as in free seedy resources for all people.

Im also planning to do this with beans, so if you'd prefer to grow beans, im going to get tomatoes out first and probably get onto beans mid August.
