That how and why I’ve been able to make so much music in the past few years. There’s just a floodgate that’s been opened, and it’s been fun to just make stuff.
It’s like saying “I’ve got so and so song in my head” but only you’ve heard the song and it doesn’t even have a name. Which until recently has been frustrating.
My brain just loves making music. It’s only been very recently, as in the last 10 years or so, that I’ve been able to effectively translate what’s in my head onto a recording. It’s so satisfying and liberating to make these things tangible.
I’d always have little parts going relative to one another. A bass line and a melody part and some drums. Always. I’d sometimes mash up popular songs with other songs.
I remember being in grade school just wandering alone in the playground, chattering and chomping my teeth in a manner of making drum beats that only I could hear.
JK Rowling wrote fantastical books about being marginalized for arbitrary reasons. There are characters using potions to change gender to impersonate other characters. But in all her imagination she can't apply that thinking to ordinary life and understand that she might be wrongheaded.
Got an album coming out next Friday. It’s a bit different. I listen to it almost everyday to make sure I still like it. I still do. Which means it’s probably pretty good. Can’t wait for you to hear it.
