19. Generally speaking, I can't imagine enjoying living in most fictional settings. But if I had to pick, I think I might enjoy Hydaelyn/Etheirys from FFXIV. Magic and aetherology have provided some unique conveniences that we don't have. The world is quite beautiful. And, you know, catboys.

17. Years ago, I probably would have said Sephiroth. Now, you might think I'd say Emet-Selch. However, my favorite antagonist in all games, even more than Ganondorf, is Kuja from FFIX. He's manipulative, powerful, flamboyant (I have a type), and ultimately tragic in a wonderful way.

12. Only half-joking, FFXIV. But as a 100% honest answer, Ōkami. One of the most beautiful and most fun games I have ever played, and it will introduce you to far more Japanese mythology and folklore than you could possibly imagine. Plus, we're finally getting a sequel after all these years!

10. Tales of Symphonia has a special place in my heart for being the first action-RPG to really grab my attention. Persona 5 is likely my favorite turn-based RPG. And similarly, Super Mario Galaxy is probably my favorite platformer. But there is no single game that I think has the best gameplay.

9. While I could pick the ending of FFX, I don't think anyone is surprised by my choice. Even though I knew in advance that G'raha Tia was the Crystal Exarch and what his plan was, I bawled when I made it to this scene. Then I bawled again at the end of Shadowbringers. Damn this sweet catboy.

8. If you know me, you know I had to pick FFXIV. I love soundtracks that use recognizable leitmotifs, and Soken Masayoshi and his team use them to great effect, communicating information to the players while making us laugh, cry, panic, and rejoice. Honestly a musical masterpiece.

4. The Shin Sangoku Musō/Dynasty Warriors and Sengoku Musō/Samurai Warriors series. I don't care how braindead people say they are. They're fun, especially if you know the literature and history behind them. The first Sengoku Musō also inspired me to go into academia and Japanese history.

3. Suikoden V. Most often you hear II and III raised as people's favorites, but as someone who didn't really get to play games with pixel graphics and lives for stories, V is my jam. The world is beautiful, there's tons of warfare and political intrigue, and the strategist is female Zhuge Liang!

1. As my parents didn't let me get a game system until the N64 era, my first game was technically Super Mario 64. However, the first game that I actually played a lot, which I got only one day later, was Banjo-Kazooie. Still one of my favorite games.

11. The original Robin, Dick Grayson. The greatest ass of all male superheroes (thank you Gail Simone and Nicola Scott). A beacon of positivity and optimism that managed to bring light and color into Batman's dark world and led my favorite DC superhero team. Barbara Gordon is one lucky lady.
