All media mergers end up hurting writers, actors, directors, and everyone else who works in the industry. Executives, assistants, caterers, teamsters, everyone. Fewer companies means fewer jobs, period.

Just a heads up with all the Christmas markets and fairs on at the moment - if you see art or art-based pieces for sale, ask who the artist is, because the amount of people deceptively slapping "made locally" on pieces locally farted out by their computer and a genAI prompt is getting depressing

People who dismiss e-books or audiobooks as being somehow less worthy or less meaningful than physical books are missing the point of books. Books are not ink and paper, just as human beings are not defined by their physicality. Books are connections; emotions; ideas; just like their creators.

Do you guess ever think about Stede saying “you weren’t a dick, life’s a dick” bc he understands that the shitty things Ed did weren’t an effort to be shitty. He was traumatized and coping poorly and instead of saying “yeah you were kind of a dick” Stede was like, “nah, you just had a bad run”

All of this is true, and in addition, when we stop using AI art, it stops using water and electricity, but if we stop using human artists, the human still exists and has needs that must be met.
An AI datacenter devours enough water and electricity for a whole city of people each day.
A human artist only takes up as much electricity and water as any single human.
This is why, even if we settle copyrights and such, AI will always be immoral. Just pay a human.

Telling myself it’s the right choice because it’s the one I’m making. Sitting here being indecisive and fretting about too many variables I don’t have control over isn’t beneficial. Looking forward to this new chapter.
