The Schöntal workshop was thus a lively and enriching experience!

The workshop is funded by the STRUCTURES YRC and it celebrated its 9th edition this year. 2/2

For four days in August, the beautiful Schöntal Abbey united 16 students and 2 professors to delve into the topic of "Inverse Problems."

Participants were organized in groups, each of which carefully prepared subtopics, and presented them during the workshop, leading to in-depth discussions. 1/2

The program included topics on many-body spin systems, Monte Carlo methods, tensor networks, unveiling entanglement, and more, and it was of course a great chance to kick-start new scientific collaborations! 2/2

Don’t miss this Friday’s STRUCTURES Jour Fixe!
Tim Laux (U. Heidelberg) will speak on “Geometric Flows in Physics, Math, and Data.” Abstract:
Geometric flows are ubiquitous! They describe the evolution of interfaces and surfaces in continuum mechanics, can be used for the classification of abstract manifolds, and even emerge in algorithms in data science and machine learning. In this talk, I will show various examples of geometric flows and highlight their common structure. Even in the simplest examples, singularities will inevitably appear. I will show how geometric measure theory allows to make the formal picture rigorous in the presence of these singularities.
