It takes two to tango, part of the EU set up is that the MS's decided to pool their resource on this issue and negotiate as one, giving them the edge. The UK knew this before the referendum so why would they set this aside just to suit the UK.

As others have said, most people with private pensions, their funds have still not recovered from Truss's mini budget which the press had praise at the time. Amazing how the press can get things so wrong and hope people will not remember a few years later. Just like Brexit look where we are now.

Seam to remember an interesting article by the Gibraltar government that they were going to vet more stringent anyone applying for a residents permit there.

As I approach my school 50th reunion you know the bullies bullied so many, they won't remember what they said, but the person bullied will have a distinct memory of what happened.

I persuaded my parents to leave everything to my kids as their parents had helped me in my youth.

And double that if done whilst the husband was alive.

When we return from a visit to the UK the only thing we bring back is Marmite, you either love or hate it.

I live in hope that on the 10th anniversary of the referendum labour come out and "says look we have given it our best shot but if we want any improvement we must be fully in the EU"

I'm always surprised how little financial planning some people do. Downsizing, easing the pressures on one's kids etc. Also hugh house price inflation is not exactly earnt money. My first house in London which I bought for £30k over 40 years ago is now worth over £1m. Crazy for a 14foot wide house.

But we could easily save the £70k times the no. Of UKIP MEP or so by not paying them the money they are either now or about to receive for sc***ing the country over.

You need to be at least 1/4 Irish to apply.
November 14, 2025 at 10:36 PM
This is an example of what annoys many who made the effort to become resident

Exactly, it kept us out in the 1960's and unfortunately will keep us out for the foreseeable future.

Thing is if we are approach EU membership as exceptionalism we will never get anywhere.

Country of birth. Equally many from the likes of the Caribbean and India had British citizenship from birth so never needed to apply for British citizenship even though their country of birth has gained independence. I see many apply for Irish citizenship but have no affinity or relationship there.

Don't think the electorate really understands citizenship. Many mix it up with residency others think it is something that can be bought or sold. See the recent discussion on ILR, why must someone who has spent their live in the UK have to take British citizenship, many would have to renounce their

Whether moving within the UK or across a border one really needs to take full responsibility for your decision. Like looking at schooling, council tax rates etc. between different areas is only your responsibility.

Everyone has to live with the consequences of their action. (OR OUR PEOPLES ACTIONS)

My boss was Italian and lived in the UK since he was 9 yrs old, there was no need to become British, but now at nearly 70 married to a brit he is having to make a decision incase reform or tories get in. Other with young kids have already made the decision to move abroad but that is the new world.
October 24, 2025 at 5:54 PM
No, the problem is you did not act in the 4 years you had to make a decision and now have to live with the consequences. The days after the referendum I lost half my projects so had to review what my future would be. Many others I know had to make hard decisions and acted in time.

But you do to keep your residency, and after 3 months you had register in the country you are in. This is post brexit for those who were resident before brexit.

The main thing is everything changed with the brexit vote, so now you have to live in the new third country world
