This Valentine’s Day, I’m joining @centenaryaction.bsky.social in celebrating women MPs! ❤️ I want to celebrate @jessphillipsmp.bsky.social because she fights so hard to call attention to and end violence against women and girls. Thank you Jess.

Good meeting with the Police, the County Council, the Police and Crime Commissioner's Office and @womensinstitute.bsky.social to discuss the plans to reduce violence against women and girls in Warwickshire. Good progress made. Looking forward to working together in the future.

A timely reminder. Women don't "neutralize" anything. We complement. Together we are better. I wonder how Zuckerberg explained his comments to his wife.
Today in 1981: Lennon’s “Woman” is released, barely a month after his death.

It came about, he said, “one sunny afternoon in Bermuda. It suddenly hit me what women do for us. .. Women really are the other half of the sky. As I whisper at the beginning of the song: it’s a ‘we' or it ain't anything."

Thanks for highlighting - these are very encouraging results. I will encourage my local police force to follow the pilot and take part as soon as is practicable.

And well done.
Just like much of the furore this week, here is an example of a law passed 4 years ago and the Tories did nothing with it. Within months of us being in power we delivered the scheme because we are about actual actions and real outcomes. They talked we walked. www.burytimes.co.uk/news/2484314...

Well done - this is a little known unintended consequence of the law which I first came across through work @womensinstitute.bsky.social did to promote Women's Aid whole system approach manifesto in advance of last year's general election.
Today at PMQs I raised the absurd presumption of parental involvement set out in law which means domestic abusers can use child custody battles to continue abuse of their victims.

I have seen in constituency casework that children and victims are being put at risk by this absurd rule.

Elon Musk is starting to risk getting Jess Phillips killed. She's been safeguarding minister for six months. She oversaw nothing relating to the rape gangs. As an opposition MP she was one of the most prominent campaigners for the victims.

What he's doing is a travesty.

Yes, we heard the very inspiring @nazirafzal.bsky.social, of Starmer's team, talk on this at @womensinstitute.bsky.social at Royal Albert Hall last year. Don't underestimate the courage it takes to go after these gangs (threats to family etc). Musk should get his facts right before posting 🤐.

Thanks @anandmenon.bsky.social Nazir Afzal gave a heart-rending yet inspiring speech to the June annual meeting of the Women's Institute. His passion for ending violence against women and girls shone. A spontaneous standing ovation from 5000 members at the Albert Hall - and we're no easy audience!
