1) people in Boulder are drinking craft beer, not Chardonnay.
2) Solar is less expensive than coal. So pushing coal is likely to drive up electricity prices even faster.

For those wondering how to respond to those saying we only use electricity for part of our energy needs, this is a reminder that there is more than one way to do things and we'll end up doing more with electricity because the technology has more room for advancement.

What's more, this bill would derail most of our new expected electricity supply over the next 5 years. That puts other new factories, housing development and the AI race at risk. These all need electricity, and we just won't have enough if this draft bill becomes law.

Many of the 287 solar and battery factories threatened by the House reconciliation bill are in parts of the country already known as the rust belt but this term could become much more familiar to the southeast if the current draft becomes law.

Solar (66%) and batteries (18%) made up 84% of new capacity on the grid last year! Nothing else can ramp up over the next five years so it is critical we keep solar and storage projects on the rails or else we'll find ourselves paying more for less electricity.

FWIW, EVs use their brakes far less than ICE vehicles. There is even a renewed interest in drum brakes for EVs for this reason. Drum brake pads are sealed inside the drum which helps reduce maintenance and would seal in some dust.

It's worth noting that all the nuclear capacity added there was from the two new units at Vogtle, an existing plant. And they took a looong time to develop. But solar, batteries and wind are pretty fast to develop.
