Man it's really annoying that python's otherwise-awesome pathlib.Path breaks in a bunch of cases where os.access works fine.

Path().is_dir(), .is_file(), .exists() all unecessarily call .stat() and break occasionally, when os.access(...) or os.path.isdir(), etc. work fine.

Ok this is kind of absurd. I just switched over @ArchiveBoxApp to uv, and it ran our typically ~1 min build+publish in under 2 seconds.

It's singlehandedly making me want to stay on python compared to JS.

👏 👏@charliermarsh @astral_sh amazing job

I'm consistently surpised at how much better Claude 3.5 is at generating code that works on the first try compared to GPT-4o

Not a single hallucination in sight...

I've decided to make all my projects run as if they are in a prod environments by default, at the expense of new dev onboarding ux.

I've seen too many prod servers started in insecure dev modes due to missing or broken ENV vars in a yaml file, causing fallback to dev defaults.

whaaaaat are you doing @GoogleChromeDev team

It's showing a "Sign in to quora with <a href="http://google.com"" class="hover:underline text-blue-600 dark:text-sky-400 no-card-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link="bsky">http://google.com" popup while I'm looking at chrome://settings !!!

This is wild, it's the first time I've seriously considered switching to Safari, just to get away from these popups

These are driving me insane, disabling them in Google Account settings and Chrome settings doesn't work, and they're not part of the page HTML so adblock doesn't work. How do I stop this madness?!

Do you think conscious experiences can be strictly ordered?

Here's my take:

Hey US @StateDept pay your United Nations bills!

It's embarrassing as the richest country on earth to be behind on our bills to an org that does so much for the world.

helium over here is just casually breaking the laws of thermodynamics

does this mean if you put liquid helium in your AC it'll run backwards?

This is resonant advice that I've heard from so many sources in my career:

95% of the agonizing on distributed systems correctness is overkill, humans are good at manual conflict resolution
