I guess being confidently/convincingly wrong has worked for scammers for decades, I guess it makes sense that it works when AI tells people stuff too.

I'm not a legal person, but it does make me wonder what sort of precedent this could set for other intellectual property / copyright disputes.
Presumably if this is fine for AI, then the PirateBay people are now absolved of any wrongdoing too?

... and now I have to look at what those pointers look like because that could be a route to changing things without affecting the checksum 🤔

Yeah it can happen, databases that track IP address allocations/locations (e.g maxmind) get updated all the time.

A few possibilities:
- Using a VPN, Proxy, etc at signup
- IP address used at signup has been reallocated or suchlike, thus geolocates differently now (using today geoip data to lookup IP locations from years ago)
- Twitter simply using bad data somewhere
- Using a VPN, Proxy, etc at signup
