Cat dad. CA & Hapa-Kamaaina democracy-loving Democrat. Creator of Evil Sid for ye olde Late Late Show's Craig Ferguson. Maker of tchotchkes with a CO2 laser for podcasters near and far. T4booboo at the once great TwiXXer place.
I beg to differ Dave. These two go through them so fast I have to buy them by the 120-tube boxes, both tuna and chicken varieties, on a daily basis, so maybe between the three of them it's about half the US GDP. But you are correct in that they are too big to fail and bailing out Churu is messy.

Adorable, and I could have mailed it with this back then.

No worries. This will always be my favorite cent. The Flying Eagle that was right before the Indian Head cent.

Dusty Update: 251124

First direct sustained contact with his sister Eleanor. Of course they were acting like they didn't notice each other and he left after a couple minutes to sit on a newly delivered box but it's a first.

With Snowball, I adopted Eleanor about 10 months after Bart passed. After Snowball passed I didn't expect to have another kitty 4 months later. It's been a bit over 3 months since adopting Dusty and today was the first time he and Eleanor sat touching each other. I'm really happy but miss Snowball.

Cats on ladders are relatively rare but one of my favorite cat-egories. My late Bart circa 2003.

She says "Thank you". Well actually she just finished a Churu a and it came out more like "Thslanks shyoo".

My Eleanor has a "push-to-start" button for post napping but it doesn't really work very well.
November 14, 2025 at 5:21 AM
What a wonderful idea. Eleanor's older brother Snowball who passed away in April at 18.5 and his older brother Bart (gray) who passed at 17 back in 2016. Bart was my last 20th Century cat as I adopted him in 1999. I'm sure Bart & Snowball are waiting their turn to meet and greet CharlieBrown.

Pretty close for sure. Definitely in the floof department. Dusty has what I've been told is a "Lynx" face.
November 13, 2025 at 11:44 PM
Eleanor says your floof looks like my new brother Dusty's but even floofier. Toe bean floof is about the same though.

They are getting used to sleeping closer together. Not ready for contact although Dust was whacking Eleanor in the face with his winterized fluffy tail when she was facing the other way.

Dusty Update 11/07/25:

His favorite place to sleep now is my people bed (he's a flip-flopper). He's also "Internet Kitty of the Week" for @proleftpodcast.bsky.social w/ @bluegal.bsky.social & @driftglass.bsky.social . If you could use some actual political truths for your ear-holes, try them out.

I set my clock a little in advance. Did I do it right?
November 2, 2025 at 7:37 AM
I literally just gave her a Churu treat and this is the look I get.

The sorrow never completely goes away but waxes and wanes which is just a part of loving someone.

Iz kittie dis?

Hopefully she met and made friends with my Bart (gray) and Snowball on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Gary is a great name. I recently adopted a TNR that showed up in my yard a few months ago. Since I didn't know it well enough to "check under the hood" and being pretty dirty I just called it Dusty. Turned out Dusty is a he and he also happens to be a dust magnet so the name fits perfectly.

She and Dusty match.

With Salty Liquorice becoming a newly confirmed coat color I no longer have to feel bad about calling my newly adopted kitty a Toasted Marshmallow.

Here's the moon making an over-exposed appearance a few minutes later. Note that the camera was set to stay in Black & White.

I flipped a PTZ security camera upside down so it could look "up" better. Amazing what a reasonably-priced 4K camera can image. Full constellation Orion in light-polluted San Jose and it could even resolve a Mag 4.34 star at ~ 1,087 light-years away. Not too shabby. Jupiter in the upper left.

Looks like the clouds don't want me to try another star-movement time lapse with the spooky dead tree in the frame tonight.
September 19, 2025 at 8:44 AM
My recently-adopted boy Dusty is perfect in pretty much every way ... except for his rare BUT silent-but-deadly emissions. And yes, we know who it was because you never remember to try the old "Pull my finger" gag.

He also keeps dialing numbers outside my phone plan.
