A woman may be dismissed when explaining rules, while a woman of color may also face racial stereotyping. Games may include gay characters, but rarely queer disabled characters of color. Players using mobility aids face access barriers; & a queer disabled person of color also faces microaggressions.

August is Intersectionality Awareness Month. Overlapping identities can shape privilege and discrimination in personal life and gaming. Intersectionality shows how race, gender, class, sexuality, and ability overlap, creating unique challenges for people with multiple social identities. For example:
A diverse group of people with different races, genders, ages, and abilities stand together smiling. Visible identities include people wearing hijabs, people with different skin tones and hairstyles, a person using a wheelchair, a person with a guide dog, someone using a tablet, and a person with an implant. Behind them is a colorful overlapping Venn diagram and the words “Intersectionality Awareness Month.” The border features stripes of the Inclusive Progress Pride Flag
