Here are some Norwich canaries:

In Elizabethan times, Dutch and Flemish refugees settled here and established a weaving trade - and they brought their canaries with them. They became known as the Strangers, and now Norwich is sometimes called the City of Strangers.

It is a real thing I did (my neighour has a canary she needed help with) but it's not a real tradition. I was just being whimsical - but it's based loosely on the fact that canaries do indeed have a long association with Norwich and our football team is nicknamed the Canaries.
