“Everton Barracks”
Chalk, charcoal and acrylic on paper
2025
(55cm x 39cm)
Vivid.drag.navy

After some rather involved map pictures, yesterday I fancied a palette cleanser of a simple building portrait. The sepia tones and symmetry reflect the abandoned building’s classical roots.

The main elevation of the abandoned barracks, with peeling light blue stucco, contractors signage and graffiti.

“The Avenues”
Ink, chalk, crayon and collage on paper
2025
(55cm x 39cm)

The Avenues are a grid of 8 leafy Victorian streets, of genteel red brick villas. Alongside the houses are 3 Grade 1 listed Victorian churches (must be a unique statistic!) of which I’ve included 2 here.

A reminder that you still have a chance to visit my solo show at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre until 29 September! 🤗 #liverpool #art

Thank you so much. It’s thought provoking to get an international perspective. Such streets are a specific quality of the British urban experience. As you can imagine it comes across powerfully in the streets around the football ground, which I tried to capture in my work.

Do it! Love using crayons, particularly when combined with other inks.

“Goodison Park”
Acrylic and crayon over monotype
2025
55cm x 39cm

This part of Everton was saved from the planners’ wrecking ball and I was rather moved by the long lines of terraced houses, each ending in the walls of the stadium - wrapped with huge photos of the club’s players. #art

“A house with painted brickwork”

Iron bay window on Webster Road
Ink and charcoal on board
2025
(15cm x 30cm)

Today’s small painting is of an abandoned house in Wavertree. The bay windows on these houses are distinctive, supported with chunky cast iron columns, and these are the main focus of the piece. #liverpool #art

Nocturne Kopitiam Sentral
Ink and charcoal on wood panel
2025
15cm x 30cm

While I’m struggling with my back I’m rather enjoying having a go at these little pieces.

The subject of today’s painting is a rare surviving building by
renowned Liverpool architect Peter Ellis. #liverpool #art

Ducie Street
Ink, collage, crayon, metal gold leaf
30cm x 15cm
2025

I injured my back a few weeks ago which has prevented me from doing much. However I’m on the mend so had a go at this small piece today.

This is my 3rd piece based on the ruined houses of Ducie Street in Toxteth #liverpool #art

Collage sketch of a cottage in Port Sunlight. I haven’t sketched with collage for ages and it felt rather refreshing.

Today’s drawing of Port Sunlight. I’m continuing to experiment with colours for these pieces but this view is of part of Queen Mary’s Drive. These houses have decorative brick infill to the timber frame. #liverpool #art

“Do not react”
Chalk, ink and charcoal
2025
(50cm x 39cm)

The heightened nostalgia and defiant optimism of the cottages of Port Sunlight. These examples were built between the two most destructive wars in history. #art
