Potato Pie > various flavors ~ was a success!!!!

✨TASTE TEST✨
The end result? I’m shocked to say, egg wash wins!!! The crust was obviously more sturdy & had texture!

Adding a coat of butter (or oil) on top + then a thin layer of seasonings (salt, pepper, onion & garlic powder) made a solid flavor difference.

Egg wash brushed on after that

Raw potatoe definitely looked kinda .. bloaty 😅 tasted a smidge soggy too ~ so pre-cooked is the way to go!!
November 24, 2025 at 9:55 PM
Pre-cooked crusts were done after 30 minutes!!! And they look ✨GOOD✨

This is a breakfast style 😅 eggs, sausage, veggies

The curved pieces at the top of the crust.. look.. SO cute!!!! 🥰

BATCH #2:
I’m … going ahead and testing a raw potato vs pre-cooked potato crust! 😳 I’m so nervous!!! I really should’ve tried this tomorrow..

Anyway, I used:
1. raw + oil m
2. egg yoke wash (+oil)
3. the prettiest crust! which was Yukon + butter

~ in oven now ~

TASTE UPDATE:
Sooo both salt-bath (Yukon & Russet) absolutely were just … like eating chips 😂 we just snacked & they’re gone!!

Completely not a “crust” recipe.. didn’t hold together at all. Great chips tho!

Some cute close ups of the prettiest Yukon (+butter, no salt-bath)

And russet (+butter, salt-bath)

And egg wash …. I have mixed feelings.. must taste, soon

And here they are!!! 28 minutes in the oven & looking gorgeous!!!

1ST IMPRESSIONS:
Oil vs butter seemed equally singed <which I think is good>

Egg wash add-on looks weird, but we’ll see how it tastes.

Salt bath definitely isn’t sticking to each other a well.. hm hm. They also shrunk more.. gaps..

Quick note to self of each experiment ~ I keep them in this grid setup during prep, cook & cool

Salt bath potatoes were more pliable & easy to form along the cast iron.

Other test ~ brush with oil or butter?

Also, all 6 have half salt & pepper <nearest handle>
November 24, 2025 at 7:11 PM
BATCH #1:
6 mini cast irons + 5-ish potatoes

My mandolin produces thicker slices than I’d prefer, and did not always curve to the cast iron.

Also, it didn’t fit a russet. So any rectangle slices were made by a simple hand-peeler, until it fit & the mandolin did the rest.

There’s an obscure, rarely watched Ghibli movie that hits that itch ~ you might like. I liked it ~

I can help!
Space Between Worlds: is not in space, but it’s new tech & how that affects the world.

Unconquerable Sun: sci-fi version of Alexander the Great - conquerer.

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars: sci-fi, unique twists, mixed ending.

Lose the Time War: also not in space, but excellent mystery

Oh man, I’m not fond of that in ANY genre.

I still have a nails-on -chalkboard reaction to a specific book that was obsessed with describing her fav character’s breakfast - over & over.

It was just toast!!! Buttered!
😆
— ahhhhhhrgh! —

Best of luck tho!
& I do recommend gingersnaps! 4 sanity!

I know there’s a lot of arguing about which time of history we’re repeating, but I can’t stop thinking about the mechanical loom that ended the profession of all weavers ~ I think some war & climate change on the side..

In 1830 when they wrote chants about having more meals IN prison than outside.

In case you don’t know, child labor laws have been slowly revoked in many states.

They 100% planned this.

For kids. For abuse.

Here’s a printscreen from 2023. And here’s a link to the states who’ve made changes here in 2025 ~

I got to see the Redwoods for the first time ~ and I’m fascinated by this picture I took.

The tree was felled by lightening, so that’s the black edging. But the vibrancy of the moss.. the colors

Something about it fascinates me

“The Gentleman and his Vowsmith” by Rebecca Ide is .. utterly fantastic.

This bends back & forth from duty to mystery & love, just constantly! The characters engaged me & I was so relieved my favorite didn’t get murdered 😂 It was recommended by author Melissa Caruso, & I’m so happy I read it!!!

I really enjoyed “The Two Lies of Faven Sythe” ~ by Megan O’Keefe

It takes an almost princess character (sheltered, naive, bored) & tosses her into pirates!! 😂 I didn’t see any of the twists coming & constantly laughed at the banter! What well made characters 💖

Deeply enjoyed & will read again!!!

I’m not surprised!!!! You strike me as a deep souled goth/punk/witchy person ~ who would walk through the forest at night with an elaborate lantern, just for ambiance 😄🧡 and I love it!!!
