even splatoon has some weirdness because the lore is more of an after thought to things they just thought was cool, so you have some nonsensical magic stuff that has to exist alongside all the grounded science fiction stuff and some fans hate that lol

even if you think the retcon in pikmln 4 was unnecessary it's not like they deleted everything that happened in past games or changed significant things about how the planet works if you dig deeper into the little comics they released and in-game character dialogue, they absolutely still care imo

okay so it was a pikmin short I knew it lol, it had the little song they sing in one of the ads for pikmin 4 that isn't the main theme
also I don't think lore heads should care that there's humans in this since it's just a standalone short and not in the game canon, it's just for fun

it'd be weird if this was a teaser for a game yeah, but doubt it's really for a pikmin project itself and more of an independent short film to test the waters, it is funny how cryptic they're being about it for absolutely no reasonable explanation like they didn't have to do that lmao

just looks like an original thing to me, if anything it's more pikmin themed than mario, humans canonically can't see pikmin so they're just invisible carrying stuff around and you can kinda see them blurred out in some shots
also probably not illumination animation so doubt it's movie related atm
