Also, students want and need for educators to lead by example:
“With AI and learning, trust goes both ways. Teachers should be transparent in their use of AI.”
As educators we need to be open with our students and let them know when we use it for supporting our work as well!

Student concern:
AI can save time and empower students to learn.
“It’s why we need to learn correct ways to use AI. It can enhance our learning. To keep our voice, our ideas and improve our creativity.”
AND students are understanding not just the value, but the need for a balanced approach!

Student concern:
“We should be using it now.”
Students understand the need they have to be able to utilize AI in the future to not fall behind their peers - that means they need to be building their knowledge and skills now!

My top quote from one of the students :
“School is where we learn the skills we need to know to be successful in the real world.”
Educator reflection:
Are we allowing, or better yet, providing opportunities for students to build their knowledge, understanding and skills around AI?

I’ve really been enjoying the content from the Ditch Summit. Thank you for all your hard work to encourage and empower educators!

100%! Thank you for bringing this to light. I’ve heard from several (not just educators) that the concern is using AI to accomplish more will mean more deadlines, more work, and more stress… I greatly appreciated your insight. It’s not more, it's better!

3. “What can I do w/ the time AI saves me?”
2 great suggestions:
Connection and Creativity
Connection w/ ourselves, using time to center ourselves & to connect with others.
Creativity, giving ourselves the time we need to allow for creativity to take place! (It’s not something you can rush).

2. I love this thought provoking quote: “Is the goal to do more or to do better?”
We could and should spend some time thinking on this one. With the usage of AI increasing seemingly daily, what is the end goal, to what end? I want to “do better” as a result of using AI.

2. You don’t have to understand something 100% before deploying it in your classroom!
This allows students to see us as we are - life long learners who aren’t afraid to try and even fail. It will create a wonderful environment where Ss can explore, learn, and grow!!!

This one is also good:
2. We have a “value crisis” around what we offer in education. Are we providing Ss what they need?
Are we preparing Ss for success in their future careers & life? Giving them the tools they need & teaching them how to succeed? Or are we preparing Ss to succeed at school?

I loved adding student voice and opportunity in my class. I once had a young lady ask if she could create, design, & record an interpretive dance for her final. She did and then we watch it together while she explained the connections and demonstrated her knowledge and understanding of standards!

3. If we, as educators, are not intentionally and proactively thinking toward the future and toward what students need to know and be able to do not just for now but for THEN, we are not fulfilling our promises to them.

2. Those with more resources inherit more. This is not just true with trusts and wills, etc. some of our students are not “inheriting” the skills, abilities and knowledge they will need to succeed in the “science fiction” reality of the future.

1. Your inheritance is what has been passed down from others to you. You have no control over what you inherit - what are we passing down to our students?
