Just another former grunt NCO with bad takes.
Most of the battle scenes in the film show the kids defeating the the Soviets/Cubans in most of the fights, though. The k/d ratio is around 30:1 in the Americans' favor. Most of the kids die heroically, and only at the very end of the film does the hopelessness shine through.

“Literal Nazis are running our national security and using its agencies to advance a Nazi agenda” seems like a scandal that merits some ongoing drumbeat coverage, especially when there’s some new evidence of it on a near-daily basis

My boot camp platoon in 2006 watched FMJ as a treat for coming in first at the rifle range. We watched the boot camp scene right up until Pyle shot Hartman. We were mostly fascinated by the recruits being able to use mops to clean while we scuzzed on our hands and knees. Most never saw FMJ b4.

it's preceded as well by one of the great silent scene performances by William Holden, when he recognizes that his life has been utterly worthless and devoid of meaning, and that the only thing he has to offer is violence to try and save another, violence that won't even work. It's incredible.

The Wild Bunch is incredibly romantic. The final walk of the doomed gunslingers is one of the most powerfully romantic images in modern cinema.
