I did a lot of research before and while writing, to honour the experience of the women on the home front, and the returning veterans - as much as it's possible to do that at over 100 years' distance. I loved weaving historical military and social facts into the narrative.

I can relate to that too! And the disappointment of diving into a new book and being disappointed with it 😕

Thinking about it, I couldn't identify a novel that had had a great impact on me in the past 3 years 😕. So, I'll go for The Help, which accrued plenty of negative feedback but which I read in one sitting. Imbued with anger, humour & searing indignation at systemic racism, I couldn't put it down.
