8. WORMWOOD by Layla Martínez: This has been on my to-read pile all summer and I want to get to it after THE UNWORTHY.
October 30, 2025 at 12:23 PM
I haven't read these yet, but they're next up in the queue:
7. THE UNWORTHY by Agustina Bazterrica: After Tender is the Flesh, I can't wait to crack THE UNWORTHY. Bazterrica is on my to-watch list from now on.

6. THE NIGHT THAT FINDS US ALL by John Hornor Jacobs: I'm currently reading this, but I'm almost finished, so I feel very safe in recommending Jacobs' latest. It's novel of a haunted sailing boat and the story moves at breakneck speed. First rate from Jacobs. Again.

5. SHE IS A HAUNTING by Trang Thanh Tran: One part haunted house, 10 parts haunted person. It's a great horror story about family and the bonds that bind.
October 30, 2025 at 12:08 PM
4. STARVE ACRE by Andrew Michael Hurley: Yeah, yeah, I know it's a movie, but the book is probably one of the finest examples of folk horror that I've read in years.
October 30, 2025 at 12:04 PM
3. DARK MATTER by Michelle Paver: If you're looking for the perfect fireside/hot coca/winter read, here it is. Paver's prose is as dark and cold as the environment is this spooky ghost story.
October 30, 2025 at 12:00 PM
2. THE BUFFALO HUNTER HUNTER by Stephen Graham Jones: This story stands beside THE HISTORIAN as one of my favorite vampire novels. History, horror, and captivating narrators mix for a roaring good read.

Some of us read horror all year round but since this is primo spooky time, here a few that I've enjoyed immensely this year:

TENDER IS THE FLESH by Agustina Bazterrica: An absolutely sublime horror novel that examines our relationship with animals, ourselves, and our desires.

Lucy Schwob and Suzanne Malherbe made paper bullets by writing demoralizing notes & slipping them into Nazi soldiers' pockets. Take heart and know each small act matters. Hugs to you all.
