I came to say pretty much this.
They're not functioning according to laws and regulations or with any accountability.
It could take years for any accountability to catch up with them.
Therefore they're owed much less respect than other LEO's - which is difficult if one already had none obviously

I think Paul is happy to have Trump destroying the federal government, he just doesn't like war crimes.
