In my cases it comes from a disdain for the US to the exclusion of everyone else. They can't fathom that other governments might actually be worse, let alone much worse.

On a more serious note, I have a few people in my life that if I mention stuff Russia does re: spying, hybrid warfare etc... they immediately mention "Oh the US does that too" and yeah, I get that, I know they do, but until you study Russia seriously you have no idea how pervasive their meddling is.

Russia is like water to a house foundation - if there is a way for it to get into your basement and cause problems via cracks, poor workmanship, roots, access for utilities, whatever, it is, and it is doing it more persistently than you realize.

I'm really curious how many people think it might be a good idea, do a few hours research into the reality of life in Russia, and toss that idea into the bin permanently.

It speaks to the weakness of NATO that so many people even discuss what parts of the alliance would prove too small for NATO to "go to war over."

I agree and would also include the far northern Canadian territories. Russia wants the shipping and oil drilling access. The proximity to Alaska might rile the US a bit though, but would NATO go to war over that? 🤔

Journalist access to the government must be as open as possible and in no way controlled by the government itself. This has proven to be a major flaw of the US system.

People in the public sphere tend to eventually fight back at characterizations of being a bumbling idiot, unless they don't care because their main purpose has nothing to do with positive public perceptions. As long as the bosses are happy, that's all that matters. He's probably using it as cover.

There should be a class taught in all schools - or at least a week on this topic - teaching kids to realize when society would be better off if they just bought a farm in the middle of nowhere and removed themselves from general society.
