The movie really strikes a respectful and yet playful vibe with all of these topics. You never feel like you’re laughing at the characters, you’re laughing with them.

In this moment when the world feels so heavy, Thelma makes you feel just a little bit lighter.

There’s some tender themes that often occur within aging; people’s bodies not working like they want them to, needing to rely on devices and medical equipment, discovering that most of your friends are dead, overbearing but well meaning family members who infantilize their parents.

If you’re looking for a feel good comedy, I absolutely loved Thelma, the 2024 film.

After falling for a scam, Thelma, a widow in her 90’s, sets out to try to get her money back. It’s like Mission Impossible with older adults, and let me tell you, I was laughing so hard I was crying.

Fantastic! Appreciate your comment. Take a look at our E•O•L Deck as well. I primarily use my E•O•L Deck (with a sprinkling of Death Deck cards) when working with my hospice patients. They’re both great at stimulating conversations but The Death Deck uses more humor and The E•O•L Deck is gentler.

Your Sunday Reflection:

I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields,
that is kisses them so gently?
and then it covers them up snug.
you know,
with a white quilt;
and perhaps it says,
‘go to sleep, darlings,
Till the summer comes again.’

-Lewis Carroll
