Somehow i doubt Japanese Americans were included. I’m guessing he excluded Black Americans too, since that seemed like a habit of his.

Conclusion: for less heinous legislation, legislation that makes more lives better instead of markedly worse, elect more Democrats.
Even a Fetterman or a Golden is better than a Murkowski or a Don Bacon. And I was anti-Fetterman during his primary against Conor Lamb and Malcolm Kenyatta.

No Democrats voted for this big brutal bill cutting more than $1.5 trillion from healthcare. The bill was entirely written by Republicans and adjusted by Democrats only thru the Senate reconciliation process. A few Republicans defected, but not enough. Others may have if they’d had more integrity.

Ahead of the final vote, starting in the pre-dawn hours, Jeffries gave a record-setting magic minute speech in a last ditch effort to give us information to barrage Republican House members with (& reach any who listened … not likely many)

The House vote wasn’t simple either. Massie was joined by Brian Fitzpatrick to vote no, and he promptly disappeared after his procedural vote so Johnson couldn’t bully him into changing his vote. Iirc, Mike Johnson broke a record for keeping a vote open to twist arms be get holdouts to vote yes.

The Senate vote held mild drama when Tillis came out in force against it. Rand Paul was a no. Collins played both sides, voting both ways, and Murkowski sold us out for promises that got broken very quickly. The vacationing couch fiend had to break a tie to send the bill back to the House.

Merkley’s and Wyden’s staffs did an excellent job winning many Byrd fights and stripping the Senate bill of many awful provisions that did not meet reconciliation rules, according to the parliamentarian (some, Rs managed to adjust so they met rules) www.merkley.senate.gov/byrd-rule-vi...

Once the draconian bill passed the House in May, the fight was on to the Senate, where Rs decided to be even bigger assholes. Remember the land sale provision Mike Lee tried to add in to sell off national forests for “housing”? People were pissed, and he had to tone it down, and we won that fight.

Too bad they ran scared, because many people who know this world well were telling us that confronting Rs face to face would be the most effective way to make our voices heard bsky.app/profile/bbko...
The most important thing you can do, by a parsec, is attend a town hall with your Republican Senator and with your Republican member of Congress. There is nothing more useful than spending even a minute talking face-to-face with them and telling them you do not want them to vote for this.

Booker posted a video every day talking about how bad the GOP budget (which they refused to negotiate) was. He wasn’t the only elected D getting the word out. The intent was to raise awareness and get we the people to confront and/or call Republicans, who did have the power to change it
30 days to stop this bill. SNAP is a lifeline—millions will go hungry if it’s taken away.

There was a long fight on the budget, but what we saw was the challenge facing a minority party without a foothold in either chamber of Congress or the presidency, when their votes were not needed to pass a bill.
Remember when Booker & Jeffries talked on the Capitol steps for more than 12 hours?

I don’t consider it extremely controversial to acknowledge that the likes of Fetterman are a farce, and Ds like Murphy can STFU. That is different from understanding the electorate in NH and NV.
And of course, Angus King isn’t even a Democrat.

So where I completely disagree with you is that there are 2 parties here, and the majority party is a vengeful, cruel, inhumane force that must be repudiated before this country can be fixed. Do we need better Ds, yes, but not as badly as we need less shitty Rs.

They wrote funding for snap for the next fiscal year into the bill.
I think the cavers were wrong and settled for too little. But the damage, such as it is, is temporary … there could be another shutdown as of Jan 31.

To repeat, it’s not a done deal! And Mike Johnson has to get off his lazy ass and actually bring the House back in session. He’ll be expected to finally! swear in Adelita Grijalva. And the deal is for less than 3 months of funding, which means the next fight happens soon.

Many of us want more, and Dems in Congress should keep fighting for things like reclaiming the power of the purse, as Whitehouse notes. I’m not sure how we get affordable health insurance back, but it’s not going to happen by helping more Republicans get elected
