The mistake was that we underestimated what made consumers use Steam. It was a store, a social network, a library, and a trophy case all in one. And it worked well. At Amazon, we assumed that size and visibility would be enough to attract customers, but we underestimated the power of existing user habits. We never validated our core assumptions before investing heavily in solutions. The truth is that gamers already had the solution to their problems, and they weren't going to switch platforms just because a new one was available.

Tonka Bean - A small bean that is used in cooking and perfumery for its complex flavour. It has notes of vanilla, almond, cinnamon, clove, and tobacco. Naarjie - A popular local variety of mandarin.

Local Venison - We use seasonal venison that is sous-vided at 55°C for 35 minutes before marinating and braaing. Madumbi - A starchy root vegetable also known as taro. It resembles a cross between a potato and a yam. Puglia - A local cheesery situated in Somerset West on the Waterkloof wine estate, with a focus on producing Italian-style cheeses. Ricotta Salata - Sun-dried and aged ricotta covered in rock salt. Moskonfyt & Mosbolletjie - Made with "mos" or grape must, a by-product from the winemaking industry. Mosbolletjie is a light and fluffy bread with a hint of sweetness and aniseed. Moskonfyt is a grape syrup made by reducing grape must.

Kabous - The name of the rolling bread dough which we started about 7 years ago. Biltong pickled onions - The onions are pickled using the same flavours used to make biltong. Tongkatsu - A playful take on Tonkatsu, a Japanese deep-fried pork cutlet coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs. Ours is made using beef tongue, which is called 'tong' in Afrikaans. Belnori Kilimanjaro - A semi-hard tangy goats cheese from Belnori's 'African Range' of cheeses. Bokkom - Fish that is salted & dried in the sun and wind, traditionally from the West Coast.
