This doodle was inspired by a conversation about Chinese ladies' archetypes on Twitter. Most of you should be very familiar with the Japanese (and indirectly American) archetype of a Chinese lady wearing twin buns when unmarried, especially with Chun Li from Street Fighter. In British or Malaysian media, twin braids are considered the archetypal hair style for single Chinese ladies. The most notable example here would be Sun Lee from Mind Your Language. For that matter, twin buns are actually considered children's hair styles, and ceremonial ones at that. To note, Beifang and Nanfang are nicknames. I have yet to decide on actual names if I were to continue this story.

Bearing north, the great storm drags a simple Polynesian trader from his path and onto the shores of some land to the distant northwest. He is aided by a group of officials that find him and his ship floating off the coast of their lands, waving him in to help him. His trek to what is modern day Malaysia and Indonesia has gone awry… Now, he is told, he finds himself in the hallowed lands… of China… And here, though he does not yet know it, he will change the path of history.

Back in the 2000s, little girls being horse fans was a cultural trope.

This was inspired by a real incident in my childhood on a holiday to Mines Wonderland, a theme park that only opened after sundown.

Boarding Action

The first piece I drew in the 2020s without using mannequins or any reference tracing. I used to trace mannequins to avoid making ANY anatomical mistakes at all costs previously.

Haitian Date Night

I rarely paint night scenes. This was a pleasant challenge to do last year. I might return to adaptations of Sestrina as I used elements of the novel to flesh out Sonia's background.

Another attempt at using motion blur filters to depict movement, especially in a fight. Purpure is doing a reverse roundhouse kick, a particularly difficult martial arts move to begin with. I personally can only do similar moves in the showroom and not an actual fight or duel.

Captain Speedy wasn't impressed when she found out that Lucretia's artist's impression of the suspect looked nothing like the captain she was interviewing at that very moment. Almost everything was off aside from their bare bones appearances. Not to mention that Purpure was being uncooperative by giving roundabout answers. When the Lotus Crew first formed due to Purpure and Lizzie looking for more hands on deck, Edgar decided to sign up. Unfortunately, his past history in their early teens with Sonia and thus picking on Purpure meant Lizzie had reservations about letting him board.
