A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Pro soccer marketing journeyman 🇳🇿
When I got my NC license in Raleigh in 2023, I was in line at the DMV for four hours.

When I got my Maine license in Portland earlier this year, I could reserve a time online and was in and out in under 15 minutes.
“According to a North Carolina Department of Transportation report, the average wait time in September reached two hours and forty-five minutes.”

Me: I’m the VP of Marketing for a pro soccer team with multiple senior international players on its roster.

Them: That’s amazing! I’m a 28-year-old junior accountant who scored five goals for my high school team as a senior. Can I come to your tryout? Can you ask your coach if he wants to sign me?
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

That’s definitely the kind of thing you do when you’re trying to convince someone you’re not a White Nationalist, right?
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

Proud to have helped @heartsofpine.bsky.social break the USL1 single game attendance record this year. We figured Boise would break it next year, but shoutout to @oneknoxsc.bsky.social for doing it before the season even ended! 🫶🙌 (and congrats on the title!)
The 2025 #USL-1 Final is the highest-attended game in league history, with 7,500 fans at Covenant Health Park tonight for @oneknoxsc.bsky.social and Spokane Velocity FC.

In Maine, housing prices are through the roof because retirees (who are most definitely not “illegal immigrants”) buy up the houses and then leave them vacant for six months while they summer in Florida, so there aren’t enough year-round rentals available for young people (or anyone, really).
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

What it looks like when people send your players racist DMs on Instagram (“you fucking monkey”… “stupid blacks”… “stupid n-“…), and you report the accounts under IG’s “hate speech or symbols” reporting tab: no action taken, and no “other tools” to help. Thanks for taking hate speech so seriously! 🙄

While everyone is patting themselves on the backs for yesterday’s turnout, it’s worth remembering that Trump was open about what he’d do if elected… and 4 million fewer people turned out to vote as compared to 2020. The anti-Trump resistance would’ve been more helpful in November.
Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!

Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels
"No Kings Day" protests turn out millions
Our unofficial estimate is that around 4 million people attended a protest event yesterday. Anti-Trump resistance is outpacing 2017.

I went through a stretch last year where I watched a lot of true crime documentaries, and let me tell you, the number that boiled down to “Someone committed murders, the police investigated for months and got nowhere, and then someone called them and told them who did it” was not insubstantial.
One of the reasons I think “defund the police” is a great slogan is that you get to repeatedly tell people that studies show that police don’t actually solve murders, and in fact one-third of stranger-murders are committed by police.

You know, "The backlash that happens online is actually the sign that you're doing something right” could just mean you suck.
"Being yelled at on Bluesky is good," from the highly qualified strategists who thought the best final pitch to potential Dem voters was "we love Liz Cheney," producing a catastrophic loss which gave Trump & Musk carte blanche to instantly inflict generational damage.
why would you say this out loud. why would you give us this lmao

I’d wager Sam Altman’s trillion dollar evaluation that this won’t succeed, because Silicon Valley seems largely oblivious to just how much regular people dislike AI.
well, this is what silicon valley is cooking up

a device that's always on. so when a user goes about their life talking to people, everyone who comes within a certain capture radius will have their data (raw and natural conversation data) enrolled

I’m just out here making dreams come true (as long as those dreams are simply interviewing @heartsofpine.bsky.social players or coaches).
We USL Sickos, Media Member & Content Creators often take for granted, which kind of insight or help we get by PROFESSIONAL soccer teams.

Insight we clearly wouldn't get in Bundesliga, Seria A or so.

So let's appreciate your Media Relations a bit!

In my experience in MarComm, there are exactly two types of pro-AI people:

1. Bosses who don’t want to pay creatives.
2. People who want to be creative but aren’t, and are looking for a shortcut to be 80% as good as those they admire instead of doing the work required to be equally creative.
There's a thread on Twitter that purports to show that AI can save money by producing visual effects better than Hollywood. And it's just identical shots that wouldn't exist without straight plagiarism of the source material.

It might be the dumbest thread I've ever seen.

I recently Googled “With great power comes great responsibility” to see if it was actually Voltaire who said it first. Google’s AI answer - which pops up at the top of the results - attributed the quote to Uncle Ben in Spider-Man, and cited… some guy’s LinkedIn post.
can i ask my followers here perhaps too earnestly - if you hate AI or find it utterly worthless, why?
it's jolting how little AI skepticism has reached the general public. i've had many acquaintances ask whether i use AI for research and seem shocked when i tell them it's completely useless for that purpose. my wife recently told her colleagues about hallucinations and it was news to all of them.
