It was very smart. I hope it continues departing from what the xenomorph is expected to be, to the point where it might even start to subvert past instances of the franchise, or past viewer interpretations/expectations. Getting that right will be tricky, but it's already done some of that work.

So, Alien: Earth happened.

I liked it. Can't quite believe how much they crammed into 8 episodes. It's a unique show in how it unfurled and paced its woven story arcs. I have more nuanced opinions, but I'm not going to roll out spoilers.
