The book that radicalized me was Silent Spring by Rachel Carson about the cumulative dangers of the pesticide DDT used on crops. Carson exposed the environmental disaster that was happening to wildlife due to DDT. She was called hysterical and a communist by gov officials and critics.

'A Sand County Almanac' by Aldo Leopold a classic in environmentalism I read in grad school. His words still apply today.
"We abuse land because we see it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect."
