Prioritizing active transport takes different forms in the Netherlands. If a cycle path is part of a road reconstruction and therefore has to be closed, a car lane is often opened as a temporary cycle path, so that cyclists can continue their way without detours. 👌🚲

🛑 Version 1 – Zig-Zag Bollard Space
A 2.5m-wide bike lane zig-zagged due to the curb. Scrapped because snowplows couldn’t fit.
🔄 Version 2 – Trapped Pedestrians
The curb flipped, keeping side parking but making it worse for pedestrians.

Sustainable Winter Cities
Swedish winters are terrible. But in Stockholm, relatively south of Sweden, you don’t get the extreme temperatures you might expect. The worst I experienced was a few days at -25°C.

I made a proposal for a vacant grass area in Stockholm. After a year, they said no, claiming they only do ‘small-scale projects.’
But isn’t a ping pong table or a swing small-scale? 🧐 Feeling underwhelmed, but we keep pushing for better spaces.
