Today’s advice:

Don’t be afraid to take breaks from your writing. No longer feeling fun? Writer’s block? Competing responsibilities? It’s all good! It’s fine for writing to take a back seat for a while. Go away, allow it to mull over in the back of your mind, and come back when you’re ready!

Your social media experience is yours to curate. Block who you need to. Mute who you need to. Unfollow who you need to. Not doing so is more mentally taxing than any benefit of having someone as a connection might be.

Diversity in fiction means lots of people telling lots of different stories, not putting marginalised folks into boxes where they’re only allowed to tell stories that are pre-approved for them to tell
When editors read stories written by marginalized people, can they stop expecting those stories to always center around marginalization. Can people just live? Why do editors want books by Black people to be about black trauma? Can’t I write about a black boy and his platypus?

The social media sprite does not like Mondays and apparently neither does the goblin, Bertie, who lives with them

Anyone else having their butt kicked by hayfever at the moment? The social media sprite has a waterfall coming from their eyes. No chilling out with a book today, it seems! ☹️

Drop something blue from your gallery

(The social media sprite is dreaming of holidays, preferably to somewhere less humid. The sprite does not like sweating.)

Almost the weekend and it’s a scorcher! What’s everyone’s plans? Out enjoying the sun, or flaking out somewhere with a fan at point blank range?

On Mondays we wear a scowl on our faces that shows just how disappointed we are in the continued need to work

The social media sprite has been revisiting Pratchett recently and it feels like coming home. An absolute master of the craft. Do you like his work? What’s your favourite Discworld novel? 💙📚

We spend a lot of time telling kids that they can be whoever they want to be, but I think it might be more important to tell them that they can be who they are

Support SFF magazines! They are full of talent both established and emerging, and the stories within can be a quick hit of immersion into a different world
Every few days, we'll post a profile and description of one of the magazines on our list. Please help these markets continue to provide us with the stories we love by following the links and donating, purchasing issues, or buying other merchandise they are offering.

As it storms and rains outside today (at least in the wooded glen where the social media sprite lives), have a cozy image to warm your soul:
Can you feel that? Fall is almost here 🍎🍁🍂

“Multicultural”= different *cultures*
“Interracial”= different *races*

The distinction is key. Also key is that these will apply even if neither of the characters are white. There’s a strange motion that interracial means one party must be but that isn’t the case, it’s just that this gets more rep.
How do you define "multicultural and interracial" when it comes to categorizing romance stories? What combinations of leads would fit this definition to you? Genuinely curious. #romancelandia #author #writingcommunity #sapphicbooks

Also, a pretty picture I took of a pretty place. For Friday.

We’d love to talk tropes some more! And not just romance (though those are good) but also those that come up in the fantasy genre in general! The social media sprite loves some “blue and orange morality”, when gods seem to dance to a different tune. How about you, what trope do you always eat up?
Happy Sunday! Let’s talk tropes! What’s a trope you love, that can’t help but eat up every time it makes itself know?
