They breed in Michigan so I “see” them every spring, see as in small back lit shapes bopping around at the very tops of trees and hearing them. The one in Texas was the only one I have ever seen the actual field marks on and can confirm that it is blue.

Here are the other two colour morphs that were at mud flats that day. I was so excited to see this guys in their breeding plumage, there might have been squeeing, fist pumping and car seat butt dancing. If you get a chance read up about their breeding strategy it’s pretty interesting.

A eurasian shorebird, that is the fluffy breeding plumage version I saw in Sweden this summer. They do show up along the west coast in the fall sometimes, but in a much drabber form. I got my lifer in Ocean Shores WA
