Apparently 17th century women had no time for your shit.

Paintings respectively by Artemisia Gentileschi & Elisabetta Sirani
A masterpiece realistic painting of two women holding a man down so they can saw his head off with a small dagger. they have very no-nonsense expressions on their faces. A masterpiece realistic painting of a woman toppling a man into a well head first. she looks like she is thinking about what to have for lunch.

Can definitely agree with that to some extent, but at the same time, still really glad a certain person didn't receive it this year ...

Ghosts on a Tree by F. Sedlacek
One of my favorite spooky paintings for #PhantomsFriday 🖤
A spooky painting of a bare tree filled with white-faced ghosts wearing tattered, black shrouds.

The background is a gray, hazy sky with a barely visible sun.

For this October #FairyTaleTuesday🖤 must restate my opinion that Cinderella is an autumn fairytale because there are pumpkins, costumes, and even haunted trees in some versions 🍂👸🏻🎃

#MythologyMonday today is all about favourite mythology-themed books, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to share some of my favourite books about #JapaneseFolklore and #yokai. Here's a section of my bookshelf to get started. I'll share my recommendations in separate posts.

Those are the voices of my brothers, darling; I love the company of wolves. Look out the window and you'll see them.

Beware of traipsing over the burial sites of the Nordic haugbùi, or “barrow-dwellers,” for the spirits are known for showing no mercy dispensing their specific form of punishment: Reciting poetry to trespassers.

🖼️ The Merry Cemetery
by Amrita Sher-Gil
A painting of an atmospheric but cheery looking cemetery decorated with different cross tombstones, and in the background and a line are little houses, some showing figures before them.

When theaters close for the night a ghostlight is kept on the stage so the spirits can perform; otherwise they'll haunt the actors & sabotage the current show. #FolkloreThursday

Okay, it can be argued whether it is strictly horror but I'm still going to go with the Black Cauldron for Day 1

Too much spirit traffic? Keeping newspapers by doors or windows discourages ghosts; wallpapering entire rooms with newspapers is even more effective, for ghosts are compelled to count or read every word before they can continue their intended hauntings.

Same here! (jn American Midwest.)

It really became an issue if there was traffic 😆

The ancient Greeks classified four different restless or vengeance-seeking ghosts (From historian Daniel Ogden):
Aoroi: dead before their time
Bi-othanatoi: dead by violence
Agamoi: dead before marriage
Ataphoi: dead deprived of burial.
