Just found this beautiful little treasure growing on an apple tree, I grew from a twig. So happy to have mistletoe growing in my severley neglected garden. 🌱 #plants

Here’s a snippet of #plantlore for today! The beautiful but poisonous hellebore so deadly it was thought to drive evil spirits out of dwellings. Mentioned in medieval grimoires, it was also seen as a tool to enter the underworld. Different colours possess different magical powers and uses. #Folklore

Here’s a snippet of #Plantlore for today! Fox and cubs originated from the Carpathians. Now a ubiquitous wildflower in the uk, It had numerous uses in folk medicine. Teas and balms to aid sleep and cure coughs and colds. It is sometime known as the devil’s paintbrush due to its vibrancy. #Folklore

We are travelling to the Victorian period for our snippet of #Plantlore today! Superstition said that having hydrangea planted in your garden was an ill omen that you were never to marry. They also signified rejection and in the Victorian language of flowers.

#WyrdWednesday The enigmatic chalk figurines of Iron Age Yorkshire, 600-AD410. The communities that lived in this region endured turbulent times as well as climate change. These warrior figurines may represent the Parisi tribe of East Yorkshire. They were carved wearing swords, hoods and belts.

The Last Clarion House. Built in 1912 there were lots of houses in communities promoting fellowship and socialism. The one in Roughlee is run by the Nelson ILP Clarion House Society. It provides a welcome break when exploring Lancashire on foot or cycle. #History #Lancashire
