BigColor&ExcitedForSoupMan. Amateur.
It wasn’t that, though I remember this too.
It’s not on the album turns out, because I found it at my place while looking for something else!

Spiked some Boursin in a pumpkin-squash soup with too much ginger because I am a genius.

What might cure this malaise, I ask myself
Cure? fuck off.
Go back into the Epstein emails and his nasty, illegible brain and read another 500 bits of correspondence about 'girls'
Including this one about Bill Gates:

I'm back in the archives for some perspective and the ads continue to keep me on my toes.

This tangential off-shoot is only a remembrance of how stereotypes were used in kid's media then, and where American Tail fit into that spectrum. There's no real reason to talk about a wildly racist cartoon except to grapple with how attached I was to it at the time while "knowing" racism was wrong.

It also had a Busby/Kelly-esque fever dream musical interlude (the indigenous juror spikes their drink) that's about as surreal as it gets in kid's animation. As a Franco-Belgian creation the western backdrop was already a conceptually absurd time&place, so stereotypes/references were* the material.

The Pitch: Wild West. The uncle of a criminal gang has hanged. His will asks the gang to eliminate the judge and jury who sentenced him, holding our Titular Hero hostage to witness these murders.
The Jury: A procession of thee most OTT Chinese, Irish, Mexican, Indigenous stereotypes imaginable.

A rental favorite that my parents eventually bought from the store was "Lucky Luke and the Ballad of the Dalton Gang". Lucky Luke is a French Product, it was dubbed in English, perfect hybrid for a child who just arrived. It was also absolutely crazy.

“If you were on a rental car only to find that it had *just* a tape player, with just one or two tapes in there, what would be the best case scenario? What would be on a 90 minute loop that *might* not drive you crazy on a cross country car trip?”

I put a few months into this one.
