Government bailouts are the furthest thing from socialism there is. Capitalism is an economic system that constantly fails, so it always needs bailouts. Socialism would end this cycle by giving workers democratic control over their workplaces and production.

Re-read the 1868 programme of the Alliance by Bakunin, which both Marx and Engels read. It claimed that "all the political and authoritarian States of today must scale down their functions to the simple administration of the public services" and "merge into the universal union of free Associations".

In 1877 Engels claimed that with the abolition of the state "the government of persons is replaced by the administration of things". This is typically framed as a Saint Simon reference. I also think it might be a nod to anarchist ideas from the first international that he was likely familiar with.

Well Cuba is Marxist-leninist not democratic socialist. They do have a one party state but allow for a lot of direct democracy on the local level I believe. I don't really have that strong of a take on Cuba but the US should lift the embargo

I think it depends on the demsoc. Some "democratic socialists" just want social democracy and some want actual socialism from what I've seen.

Yeah HTC doesn't give me the full history but I'm saying the events of the mays days I first learned from that. I've listened to things that talk more generally about the civil war but it's just been a while. There were lots of different factors that played into the civil war of course
