Remember 6 weeks ago when Admiral Alvin Holsey, head of the U.S. military’s southern command, abruptly decided to retire?
Makes me think at least one top-ranking officer knows what a war crime is.

My favorite kind of sign. One of them says "Caution: don't go here", the other says "here's how you go here".

Needless to say, I followed the sign.

Enshittification is depressing

Everything that was cool is struggling to survive or has become a deranged version of itself

And it’s everywhere. Ugh

Has someone breathalized the Stanford Tree since halftime?

California law requires that all mascots be over the legal limit at all times when in costume at an intra-state game, and I believe that the tree has sobered up.

Used cars that I've owned, in a lifetime of buying used cars:

Buick
Volvo
VW x4
Fiat x2
Honda x3
BMW
Subaru x3
Audi
Jeep
Toyota x2
Jaguar

and now Mazda.

A PSA for those in college towns: Next week, a whole lot of freshmen are going to go home, fuck their high school sweetheart, and then break up.

Only 1/2 of them will see the last part coming.

Please be kind to them when they come back to town, for they are fragile, confused, and maybe a bit sore

And WhoTF showed it to her?

Got a ticket today somewhere where I park semi-regularly, but rarely pay for the permit.

When I went to pay it, I learned that if you pay within 24 hours, there is an option to retroactively buy a $10 parking permit for the day, which invalidates the $75 ticket.

So, it's effectively a $10 ticket.

Look at that man. Thriving. Enjoying life. He never looked this happy when he was on the field. Even winning the Superbowl looked more like an exorcism than a celebration. This man is so done with football. Good for him.
Former Rams DT Aaron Donald tells reporters he knew from the start of training camp in 2023 that he'd be retiring after the season -- and that he doesn't miss playing.

OMG this.

In a world where all political SMS is donation spam, the media is broken (and owned), TV is nonlinear, half of ad spend is AI amplified by bots, and there's a general "this is fake" feeling {looks around} everywhere, the value of an actual person knocking on doors is 100% on the rise.
It's actually my biggest takeaway from the mayoral campaign in New York. Forget anything particular about the candidates. What stood out to me was that door-to-door conversations ended up being more important than ads blanketing the airwaves and nonstop headlines in the end.

In 1987, PG-13 was still newish, and had a "this is for teenagers" stigma among adults. The studios who produced movies targeting adults would ask for (or write dialog to get) an R rating. PG-13 movies didn't do as well at the box office among adults.

The film used "fuck" enough times for the R.
Okay, I’m gonna freak everyone out:

Broadcast News (1987) is rated R

This has always been one of the most striking SF mansions, down to how it interacts with the curve of Edgehill Way (which is no stranger to spectacular houses).

Edgehill was on one of our regular mid-pandemic walking routes, so we walked by here a bunch.

This picture is a story. I took it standing on BLM land (Federal), which is in fact public land that I was about to leave. The blue marker is an indication of the start of a Monterey County Parks trail. Of course, it is ALSO public land, though the feds don't seem to recognize it as such.

"I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life...
but let tonight be the last time I utter his name"

If Alaska Natives have 1000 words for snow, New Yorkers have 1000 ways to say Fuck Off, 10,000 ways to say Get The Fuck Outta Here, and 100,000 ways to say Fuck You.

This was all three at once.
