I believe censorship is the endgame here in any direction. We either successfully regulate these companies into removing false content, or an authoritarian will eventually do so. It's unavoidable.

The owners of these platforms: Elon, Google, Meta are also intentionally designing their algorithms to promote this nonsense since it is more profitable and in line with their political beliefs.

I constantly get right wing content recommended to me. Given that I work in tech, I've concluded it's a combination of algorithms favoring content that generates rage which is something the right specializes in. The age old saying of a lie spreading around town before the truth gets its legs applies

The truth or reality does not matter. Stop pretending that it does.

This idea that Democrats always need to take the high ground needs to die. Social media algorithms are designed to promote absurd, right wing rage bait by design.

Republicans understand that we are in a constant fight for attention in this information ecosystem, and it's why they consistently win.

I remember when they used to compete for customers. Now they are self aware that they have nearly no competition and try to steal as much as they can without you noticing.

The list of horrific events that have happened in just five months is difficult to explain:

- Arresting political opponents & judges
- Kidnapping our neighbors with armed and masked agents of the state
- Deporting legal residents to foreign torture prisons
- Violating court orders
- Starting a war

The average American has been hammered with so much propaganda from outlets like Fox News and Facebook for a decade that they can no longer distinguish outrageous lies from truth.

The "mainstream" media is also now complicit in enabling tyranny through their silence & settlements.

Republicans hate any attempts to fight disinformation because their entire ideology depends on it. Banning outrageous lies starves their hateful ideology of oxygen and it's why it provokes such a violent reaction from them.

I'm not sure how to deal with this. I was at a dinner with a bunch of Republicans recently and they just don't live in a reality that I recognize. Everything that they know or believe is just incorrect.

When you start destroying systems and institutions that you don't understand (or even attempt to understand) out of sheer ignorance, you're not just hurting yourself, you're putting everyone at risk for no benefit.

In an information economy that prioritizes attention over everything else, telling people that transgender immigrants are eating their pets will always win out over telling them the truth.

Nothing will change unless there is a significant disaster that brings them unwillingly into reality.

How many videos of armed, masked agents of the state kidnapping innocent people will it take before they realize they are the baddies?

Sounds like a perfect case for civil forfeiture!
