Yes. The contracts usually also require a substantive good faith effort to find another job as long as they’re being paid.

So much “engagement and outreach” is actually missionary work for white supremacists. The constant exposure eventually mutes your internal moral alarms. It’s one reason why the “manosphere” is full of converted misogynist white supremacists. It’s a well known path to the dark side.

It’s likely these coaches get another job so the payout rarely materializes (see the James Franklin Penn State situation for an example), but these are like a MLB contracts in that they’re guaranteed. You could think of alternatives, but (perceived as) good coaches are in the drivers seat these days

I think LSU hurt themselves by trying to get out of paying the coach they fired. What coach would want to go there given that? It’s just the cost of doing college football business these days.
