🆕After years of change, Canada’s #ImmigrationPolicy stands at a critical inflection point. A new @migrationpolicy.bsky.social country profile unpacks where we are and how we got here.

Canada is recognized as a global leader in immigration policy

How has the landscape shifted and where do we stand today?

Swipe to read excerpts from a new Migration Policy Institute country profile

By Rupa Banerjee, Naomi Alboim, Anna Triandafyllidou and Georgiana Mathurin

June 2025 58 per cent of Canadians believed immigration was too high in 2024

A 14-point increase since 2023

The sentiment appears to be driven by:

- Economic anxieties
- Housing shortages
- Reduced confidence in immigration policy Recent immigrants are still far more likely than their Canadian-born counterparts to be overqualified for their jobs

Why?

- Limited social and cultural capital
- Limited/no Canadian work experience
- Devaluation of foreign credentials
- Decline of unionized jobs
- Rise of precarious employment
- Limited language proficiency

For immigrants, this has resulted in:

- Heightened job insecurity
- Fewer opportunities for long-term career progression
- Limited upward mobility Ready to dive deeper into where we are today?
