Chief Executive John Lee has lit the flame for the 15th National Games at a ceremony in Nansha, Guangzhou on Thursday morning.

The 15th NG will be held in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao from the 9th to the 21st of November.

Depending on the distance between Matmo and the Pearl River Estuary, its intensity and the change in local wind conditions, HKO will assess the need of issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals tomorrow.

The name has been used three times previously, once for a typhoon-strength storm in 2014.

Tropical Cyclone Matmo over the seas east of the Philippines will move across Luzon tomorrow (3 October) and enter within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong later. The Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal, No. 1 tomorrow night.
