I was a grad student in poli sci. If I’ve been on a campus, I’ve attended the memorial. #MontrealMassacre #NeverForget
On this day in 1989 misogynist terror was committed on all women thru the violence of a man. With a semi-automatic weapon he took the lives of 14 women, wounded 13 more and left a murder list of even more. This post reminds everyone that violence never ended. Now with alt-text. #MontrealMassacre

December 4 for #ArtAdventCalendar
Looking through some folders and saw a bunch of shots from Newfoundland - the Insectarium & Butterfly House in Deer Lake. (Of course I didn't make any notes, so I have no idea what *type* of butterfly any of them are.)

For Dec 3 #ArtAdventCalendar it’s something entirely new to me. Photography has always been my go-to art, but I’ve tried out more stuff in 2025 thanks to a local art store’s “try everything” classes. Here’s a #gouache on black paper. #art #painting

Australia? Home of the big corps wanting to strip mine the eastern slopes of the Alberta Rockies for all to coal they can get? The selenium in the watershed will be FINE gang?
But some interesting news out of COP: @chrishatch.bsky.social: "A breakaway set of countries formed that are going to go on to start laying out a roadmap for getting off fossil fuels. And they include countries that are pretty significant comparables for Canada, like Australia."

Quick note to anyone thinking of buying my books: please purchase the new Swift Press versions, NOT the relatively small number of Unbound versions still knocking about, & being sold by OOINYA. Unbound stopped paying me for my work early in 2024 and I will never see a penny for these books.

So far we have a few photos and we'll share more as we receive them.

Oh I think #UglyDogs would enjoy these! “To bork or not to bork” 😂😂
My sister @briespangler.bsky.social has a new etsy shop! She's a professional illustrator and is doing pet designs

Also she's been staying with us and for unknown reasons she added two dog shirts to the store, no idea why, these dogs certainly don't look familiar to me

Okay you have to scroll down a few to see the bricks and the construction but jesus h christ on a crutch it’s worth it. Maybe let your engineers enjoy their dinner first though.
Right now on reddit there's a guy inventing a new kind of brick to build his home with and it's going about as well as you can imagine

This is one reason I still love social media. In the midst of a 48 hour elder care disaster, this gave me a few minutes of “OMG that’s so cool” boost. 💜💙
Did you know there's a 500-million-year-old species that lives in the deep sea called Paleodictyon, but we only know it from trace fossils and marks on the seafloor and have absolutely no idea what the animal is?

It could be a sponge or a foram or a xenophyophore or something totally different.

Last night supper; I’ve still got a few tomatoes ripe for eating. I just take a big thick slice and pretend it’s a hamburger patty. Brandywine variety, which I maintain is one of the best tasting varieties. Heritage plant, and fruits can be weird and a bit finicky. But delicious.

In which Mike tells a heartwarming and fun story about Thanksgiving and pie. Read it - it will do your heart good.
OK - pie discourse - best pie story:

In 2016, we were living in Andover, in the UK. My wife was assigned as an exchange officer at the Army Air Corps base at Middle Wallop (yes, really).*

The US Army has a tradition: senior leaders, in dress uniform, serve junior troops Thanksgiving dinner.

Tomorrow I'm going to check out a show and sale held by the Printmakers of the Salish Sea and I will be losing my mind about the linocut quality. There are so many skilled reduction linocut artists involved. Excited to see their work. Look at this! It's a reduction linocut! By Anne Jones:

I wonder what that phrase is. "Ball is in his court"? "Up to him"?
