Imagining Yoo Joonghyuk needing years to come to terms with the fact he's not only in love with a man but also wants him carnally (VERY carnally) only to have see a genderbent Kim Dokja (scenario reasons) and now he's having another crisis.

ORV is actually about Yoo Joonghyuk trying his best to break free of this apocalypse shounen series so he can become the seme male lead of Kim Dokja's BL like he was always meant to be. And fighting off all the BL elements from Kim Dokja while he tries to secure that position.

But that does NOT mean that ORV cannot and does not contain elements of a romance. Just like how Game of Thrones is NOT a Romance story but still has romance in it, you feel me?

Thus, when SnS say that ORV is not a BL, they're being 100% correct. This is NOT because "Kim Dokja is not gay" but rather because "ORV is not a Romance story". BL is a different genre and requires more actual romantic love (ie kissing, physical affection, focus on those feelings

romantic love, up to and including an actual on-screen love confession. But our main character is Kim Dokja, and even if he can love someone (and have elements of a love story occurring) it is background, and so cannot rightly be tagged with any form of a Romance genre tag.

and that there cannot be romance elements in the story. It just means that romantic love is not a /focus/ of the story.
For example, if ORV had Lee Hyunsung or Jung Heewon as our main character, ORV would probably have a Romance tag because their arcs DO involve a focus on

A story having Romance as a genre means there is a primary or strong focus on the romantic love between our main character and someone else. ORV does not do that, so it is not a Romance, let alone a BL.
But that doesn't mean our MC cannot still romantically love someone anyway

Joking aside, reiterating for those who missed it: ORV is not a BL because BL is "Romance". As in, it's the genre "Romance", but specifically between two men.
ORV is not a BL because it's not a Romance story.
However, that doesn't mean there can't be romantic love in it.

ORV is NOT a BL, but that's only because it can't become one until after Yoo Joonghyuk and Kim Dokja both manage to successfully break free of the shounen no-romance story they're in.

Kim Dokja, who struggles to decide if he wants kids with Yoo Joonghyuk not because of the pregnancy part but because he's not sure whether he likes or hates the idea of little Yoo Joonghyuks running around. (He has no confidence in his own genes overpowering Yoo Joonghyuk's.)
